Dic Not Saving Translations Properly

Post by Davidpol »

When we add a new langauge or word and translate. The translated word displays in the language grid. After saving, exit the program and restart the Dic program the words display as ??????.

Urgently need a fix to this problem.

Can we go back to the prior dictionary in fix not available?

How do you add the words to the dictionary? Do you add it directly in Dictionary Manager or from Translation Editor or from SIL Editor or some how else?
Can we go back to the prior dictionary in fix not available?
What do you mean? Do you mean that this stopped to work after "some new" version?

Tried several ways to test. First ran dictionary manager and entered a new word, translated, translation displays okay, saved all the entries and started the dic manager again/ Tranlated words corrupted.

Second, tried to add a new language, Asked the system to transalate the entire column, the translations display correctly, save and restart the program. Tranlated file is damaged.

We tried the same with a completely new idc file and it seems to work properly. There seems to be a probl,e with old dic tables and the new program.

Hopeton has been emailing igor on this.

To fix this problem you need just to re-save the DICs to "newer" format which was introduced some time ago. It looks like the "problematic" DIC files were created with older format and this is why they don't save properly if you don't have defined valid Charset for this language under menu Tools -> Font (when any cell of language selected).
So you can either define charset for all languages and keep using old format of DIC files or just re-save them using File->Save As to new format.
Please let me know if this helps.

Created a new UseDic by saving as....
The porblem now appears to b eresolved. Was able to translatea nd save the entire list in Korean.

This could be a problem to your users. We were unaware until our dic was corrupted.

Thanks for your assistance.

We have eveloped a dialog box that checks if a word is not in the dictionary. If the word is not in the dialog box displays the word and provides for the user to click on a translate button. The user then sees the results of the tranlated word/phrase and can edit each language. Testiing this componenet revealed the error. Will send if you are interested.
