Loss of formatting when exporting SIL to SIB file

Hello,
I have an SIL file which contains many languages and when I export it to an SIB file, some of the strings lose their formatting or are altered.
Here is a Dutch string from the SIL:
Patiëntkosten
When I locate the same string in the SIB which is created it looks like:
Patiëntkosten
Both the SIL and SIB editors show "Convert to UTF-8" as already selected as this should be a UTF-8 encoded file. What am I missing in the export process or what is causing it to lose formatting. It is not just this one string, its basically any string or language which uses extended characters.
